I've bben contacted by a person requesting that I sell her parts (motorcycle) who claims to have a autoparts store.
She has offered to pay thru Paypal even though at first she said she could not. Originally wanted to use a credit card.
Now she wants a favor, for me to get her 3, now 4 high-end cell phones which she will also pay for also when I send the parts.
All good. But now she asks if I will take $300 as a deposit. (NOT!)

The parts I sell are one of a kind model specific accessories. That said, she wants 7 of them...total appx. $3500.

Very confusing if not interesting...

I Googled Nigeria and came across the 419 reports, and this forum.
I'd like soome insight on this if you plaese.

It's very much a scam - the CC that was offered first was probably stolen, and the next offer will probabily be either a money-order or a cashier's cheque which will be fake.

And I'd also be willing to wager that the MO or cheque would be written for a value of about $10,000, of which you deduct the cost of shipping, and wire the rest of the money back to "her" via Western Union.

Once the cheque has turned up bad (usually a month or two after your bank clears it), you've sent the money and the goods overseas, and now your bank wants their money back. Not a good situation.

Also watch out if they offer payment through Western Union Bidpay. They emails you get are spoofed. They'll try claim all sorts of things to get your send those goods. Some will even go down the lines of treathening you with the FBI. Don't worry its all a bluff!

Anyway good work coming here first! Thumbs Up!

Credit card or cheque scam or WU Bidpay scam is the most likely as you've already been told. There is a slim possibility it may be a product registration scam, are you a dealer?

The scam goes like this:

a) They make a large order for a number of expensive items.
b) Deal appears to progress, they might ask for a sample etc
c) At the last minute, the guy will say something like, "I've just realised that your product isn't registered in Nigeria. I can't buy it unless it is registered."
d) They introduce you to a "lawyer" who can register your product.
e) All of a sudden a series of "fees" need to be paid.
f) You'll get more and more excuses about more and more fees.
g) Scammer disappears with your money.

Perhaps the most obvious sign of a scam is that the scammers don't really know what they're "buying" - nor do they care. It's all about getting a randomly chosen business to send them money - and maybe a few bonus items like phones or computers. What this means is that the scammer won't be able to answer any questions about the products they claim to be so interested in.

Randy, that is a classic overpayment scam. Ignore them and they'll eventually go away. Be wary of other scams in future because now they have your email they're likely to try further scams.

Please note that credit cards are only coming into the NIgerian scene now so the question of your friend's card being stolen is definitely out.

Only banks issue same and only people with paid jobs and identifiable means of livelihood are issued.

I doubt if the population of card holders is upto twenty thousand thousand.

I am still awaiting mine so I know the stress involved b4 u get one.

All the same dont part with a dime your friend is trying to rip you off.

Beware please.
