Hello,
When someone as a potential scammer, identifies themself and what organization they represent, is there a way to check out their identity and if they truly work for this organization?
Sincerely,
John Manion |

Welcome.
Trying to varify the identity of an individual by way of their apparent organisation is sometimes difficult. If the person states that he/she is from an organisation that really does exist then you could contact the organisation by finding their contact details on the internet or other sources.
You can then phone, email or use their forum asking to varify a persons identity. However, if an individual is a known scammer, they may make details up to try and fool you. In this case it may be very difficult.
If you post more details here we may be able to assist you in your search. |

A first checkpoint is the email address they use. If it they claim to represent a legitimate organization but use yahoo, hotmail or other free email addresses, they are almost certainly scammers. |

well, yes.
first of all, check up on their ip adresses. they are included in the email headers the scammers sends you.
use a nice smart program like VisualWhois to see if the scammers sending location is actualy where he says it is.
if that checks out, then do a google search of the email address. many times it has been blacklisted on 419 sites and you can see if it belongs to a known scammer.
if they provide you with a website that looks authentic, then use this web-based search tool to check it out: http://www.dnsstuff.com/
u can find out if the website is being hosted by a free .com webhosting service (which is normaly the case).
like mentioned before, if the scammers say they are legitimate business-men, then why do they use free email account, instead of a corporate adress.
hope this helps |
